• RESTORATION
We have renovated the historic house and barn for all members to use, saving natural resources and local history by reusing existing buildings and materials. We’ve removed miles of barbed wire fencing and added game-friendly perimeter fencing on known game trails, enhancing migratory paths instead of creating roadblocks, and improving habitat and recreational opportunities.
• SUSTAINABILITY
Ownership at Yellowstone Bend includes partnering with a local rancher who is sustainably grazing cattle on much of the ranch. This maintains open space, enhances native grass production, and promotes local agriculture and ranching using methods that are good for the land and the community. Our ranching partnership has the added benefit of partners receiving a freezer full of fresh YRB beef annually.
• LAND PRESERVATION
Montana’s growth has spawned unsightly subdivisions, even on great ranches. While Yellowstone Bench Ranch is presently undeveloped, ownership has undertaken a rigorous examination of the ranch’s natural resources and created a responsible, limited development plan, that if pursued, calls for the permanent conservation of more than 85% of the ranch (3,100 acres) via the Montana Land Reliance, and allows for the creation of up to 22 homesites (on about 500 contiguous acres). Under this arrangement, each homesite owner would own an undivided interest in the balance of the ranch, including 3,100 acres of conserved land and all common amenities.
